DKOS kicked off the season’s first cup campaign with a 4-2
win against Castle Brom.
The game saw the team return to Rectory Park for the week –
a ground that holds a special place in the hearts of everyone at the club.
The game started cagey, with both teams adjusting to the
marsh like consistency of the pitch. Castle Brom showed why they’re third in
the division above.
Omoigui had to produce a smart stop after a drive from the
edge of the box flew at him through a crowd of bodies.
However the away side took the lead shortly after, as a
cross from the left hand side was met with a diving header at the back post.
After a difficult first twenty minutes, DKOS started to find
their rhythm.
After a flowing passing move – on the swamp that is the
Rectory pitch – Jamie Gregory found space on the right and he slotted the ball
across for Sam Ford to tap in from close range.
The lead was doubled soon after.
Man of the match Gregory added to his assist with a goal of
his own, as he calmly stroked the ball past the keeper with his weaker(?) left
foot.
After the break the team picked up where they left off as
they continued to control the game.
After an almighty goalmouth scramble which saw at least a
dozen shots taken, Ford somehow fashioned some space in a crowded penalty area
to smash home his second of the game.
There was still time for DKOS to cap off an impressive
display with another goal.
Joe Burke found himself one on one with the keeper and made
no mistake by slotting the ball home with his left.
Castle Brom were able to grab a late consolation, but it
wasn’t enough to stop DKOS advancing to the next round of the competition.
It was good for the team to test themselves against a higher
division, and after that performance they won’t be fearing anyone going
forward.
