We Back - DKOS 6 - 1 Erdington AFC

After a long summer, DKOS returned to Sunday League football with a bang - beating Erdington AFC 6-1 at the club's new home ground at Streetly Community Centre.

Sporting a new look 3-5-2 formation, the home side settled into a gritty first half where there wasn't much in it for either side. Both rearguards were holding firm, meaning it would take the finest of margins to break the deadlock.

Soon enough DKOS were handed a way to beak the deadlock. Jamie Gregory was fouled during a goalmouth scramble from a corner, giving Matt Bishop the chance to open the scoring from the spot - which he did with aplomb.

Erdington tried to to respond, but couldn't find their way past a resolute DKOS defence. Soon enough they were left with a steep mountain to climb. An Erdington corner was countered to devastating effect, with one pass releasing Joe Burke through on goal. Rather than chip the goalkeeper and force him to retire out of embarrassment, the man of the match instead squared the ball to marauding centre back Alex Diego, who slotted the ball into an empty net.

DKOS started the second half on the front foot, and added to their lead in quick fashion. Sam Ford picked up the ball outside the edge of the box, and his left peg arrowed the ball into the bottom corner.

Not wanting to feel left out after his strike partner got on the scoresheet, Gregory made it four not long after with a bullet header from inside the box.

It was party time in Streetly as DKOS' stranglehold on the game grew ever tighter. The watching crowd were treated to Burke bullying the Erdington right back so badly it became hard to watch, whilst Marco Zizzi ran rings around his central midfield counterpart.

The scoring wasn't finished either. Diego won a second penalty, and rather than some Man United-esque squabble about who should take it, Bishop did what he does from the spot and got his second of the game.

Not wanting to exert themselves too much. DKOS got the opposition to score the goals for them as an Erdington centre half put the ball into his own net after Ford's winding run.  The away side managed to grab a consolation with the last kick of the game.

All in all DKOS made an impressive start in the Sutton League, laying down a marker for the rest of the season. Let's hope there's more where this came from.
