Final Countdown - Pelsall 1 - 5 DKOS

DKOS marched to the final of the Don Sheldon Cup, beating Pelsall Villa Colts for the second time in three weeks. The boys have a chance to win silverware in their maiden season on March 31st.

The game started off cautiously in front of a lively crowd, as both teams felt each other out in the opening exchanges. However the away side didn't have to wait much longer for a breakthrough. Brennan's free kick was floated into the area causing chaos among the Pelsall defence. The ball broke to Bishop, who needed no second invitation to smash the ball into the net.

DKOS knew they'd need a second goal to deliver some much needed breathing space, and they duly delivered. Ellis found himself in space on the edge of the box, before firing a left footed drive into the bottom corner. With the home side on the ropes, DKOS managed to find a knockout punch. Straight from kick off, Hawkins stole the ball from a Pelsall midfielder, before skipping past another like he wasn't there and lashing the ball into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

Rather than rest on their laurels after the interval, DKOS continued to pile on the pressure. After going close on a couple of occasions, they were able to add a fourth goal. A deliciously weighted through ball from Dines found Ford running through on goal, who made no mistake in slotting the ball past the keeper.

It started to become clear that the DKOS players (and fans) were living rent free in the heads of Pelsall players, as the home side started to kick seven bells out of their final-bound opponents - not that it was enough to put a stop to the scoring. Dines' free kick was met at the back post by Raworth, whose bullet header past the keeper was followed up by his trademark knee slide.

The home side managed a consolation goal with their first meaningful attempt on goal of the match, but it wasn't enough to spoil the DKOS party.

Attention now turns to Mother's Day 2019, where DKOS have the chance to go all the way and bring the Don Sheldon Cup back to Rectory Park. The progress made by the young side is nothing short of remarkable, and a trophy would be the perfect way to show that they aren't here to mess about. Nothing is won yet, as they will come up against a tough Burntwood side, but they have every reason to be confident going into the match. Play our game, and the trophy's ours.
