DKOS recorded an eighth consecutive victory as they eased past GRT on Sunday morning, as they continued their momentum heading into the Don Sheldon Cup final.
The game didn't get off to the ideal start. A GRT player found himself unmarked from a free kick, and headed the ball into the bottom corner via his shoulder. This was enough to give the away side a wake up call, as they promptly remembered who the fuck they were. Shortly after, resident 'Goal Getter' Alex Diego rose like a salmon to head in an equaliser from a Dines free kick.
However GG turned into GGG before the half was over, as Diego was sent off for an altercation with an opposition player. The GRT number 10 started a fight which Diego finished emphatically with a right hook, resulting in both players being sent for an early bath.
Undeterred by being down to ten men, the away side went about playing their normal game. Gregory played an inch perfect through ball to his strike partner Ford, who needed no second invitation to slot the ball home.
After the break, Ford claimed his 23rd goal of the season with another unerring finish which he has made his trademark this campaign. With their tails up and the win secured, DKOS turned on the style in a big way for the fourth goal. After dazzling interplay down the right between Dines, Hawkins and Tommy McGrail (which saw two different GRT players nutmegged), McGrail cut the ball back to Dines, who calmly sidefooted the ball past the keeper. It was the kind of goal that Pep Guardiola would show his Man City side and say 'that's what I want you to do'.
DKOS won a penalty before the game was over. Skipper Jamie Gregory stepped up, but being the nice guy that he is, opted to put the ball wide to spare the home side further humiliation.
With a cup final on the horizon (not sure if we've mentioned that yet but we're in a cup final), this turned out to be a nice dress rehearsal for the team. Confidence is sky high, meaning the team has no reason to fear anyone. Not even Burntwood.
