DKOS claimed another huge scalp on Sunday as they came from behind to beat top of the league Pelsall Villa Colts 4-2 at Rectory Park. The win makes it 5 wins on the spin, and also preserves the side's unbeaten home record in the league.
There were initial fears that the game would have to be postponed due to a thick fog shrouding the pitch, but the referee was determined to make his £30 and decided that the game would go ahead. The away side threatened early in the game, with Omoigui having to save smartly from two free kicks. After an even opening exchange, Pelsall took the lead. A ball was played across the box and fell to a Pelsall winger who fired into the roof of the net via a deflection.
Despite going behind, DKOS still threatened towards the end of the first half, but were unable to find a breakthrough. Then came a sucker punch shortly after half time. A cross from the right was put on a plate for a Pelsall striker who tucked away from six yards.
It's been said all season that DKOS don't know when they're beaten, and they were determined to prove it on Sunday. After a scramble in the penalty area following a corner, the ball fell to Gregory who shot through a crowd of players and found the bottom corner.
With their tails up, DKOS went all out with nothing to lose, and Pelsall were rattled. After another corner, the ball dropped to Sam Ford just inside the area, and he hit a dipping volley into the corner of the net. We thought there were limbs at 2-2, but DKOS were far from finished.
With Pelsall on the ropes, DKOS went for the throat in front of a raucous home support. Seemingly unhappy with his first incredible effort, Ford looked to outdo himself for his second. After receiving the ball from a throw in, the in form striker curled a superb effort into the far corner from the edge of the box, leaving the Pelsall keeper helpless.
Rather than sit back and endure a tense last ten minutes, DKOS found a knockout punch. As Ford only deals in hat tricks, when he found himself through on goal, there was only going to be one outcome. After he rounded the keeper and put the ball in the empty net, we saw the true definition of limbs. Crowd and players alike celebrated as the cherry had been put on top of the best performance of the season.
Maybe DKOS went too far in their handy beating of Pelsall, as the opposition put in false accusations to the league admins to try and get DKOS' win struck from the record. We're unsure why we've been unfairly targeted - we just want to play football and win things. If that puts a target on our backs then so be it - we'll just have to do the same thing when we meet Pelsall in the semi final in two weeks.
