After a week off for the Midlands derby, DKOS returned to Sunday League action with a 2-0 win away to Scales FC. Even with only eleven men, the Greens ran out comfortable winners on a windy Sunday morning.
DKOS got the ball rolling early on. After some poor Scales defending, skipper Jamie Gregory pounced on a loose pass, and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper for his tenth goal of the season.
The lead was doubled soon after. Ellis whipped in a dangerous corner, and after a scrappy tussle the ball was poked into the top corner by Willem Raworth - his first goal for the club. The knee slide afterwards was at best a 7/10, but the cry of 'stick that in your match report son' was heard so Willem, here you are.
Scales FC only managed a single shot on target in the first half, which was straight down Omoigui's throat. DKOS never looked in danger, and saw out the first half without incident.
DKOS looked to kill the game in the second half, but the ball just downright refused to go into the back of the net. Gregory and Ellis both came close on multiple occasions, but the score was determined to remain 2-0. Scales showed some brief fire, rattling the crossbar in their only real chance of the second half.
The highlight of the game came in the last twenty minutes. Hughes went in for a tackle with a Scales winger, and got the ball he knocked it out for a throw. For whatever reason, the winger took exception to this and kicked out at our centre half, which sparked commotion on the field - because if you mess with one of us, you mess with all of us.
Tempers flared as members of both teams squared up to each other, and then things really got going. Hawkins went flying in swinging as he took on a Scales player, Hughes (who low-key loves a scrap you know) was busy dealing with a butt-hurt winger, and Diego came to clean house with an honest to god chokeslam.
"I walked over and Diego just had some guy on the floor by the throat" - Tom Bateman.
"I came over as it was dying down and felt left out so I tried to start it up again" - Jamie Gregory.
The referee clearly had no idea what to do as the situation escalated. DKOS escaped with three yellow cards, whilst Scales had a man sent off.
The rest of the match passed by without incident, and DKOS held onto the three points and the clean sheet. On another day the boys could have scored seven or eight to add some serious gloss to the scoreline, but a win is a win. Bring on next week!
