The points were shared on Sunday morning as DKOS played out a 1-1 draw at Rectory Park. The home side dominated much of the game, but couldn't quite find the break they needed to secure the victory.
The home side dominated early proceedings, refusing to let their opponents have any time on the ball, and looking dangerous when going forward. Ellis in particular gave Duke of York, turning him so much that we hear he likes men now (although those reports are unconfirmed). However DKOS were dealt a sucker punch midway through the first half. A ball to the back post was controlled by the Duke of York winger, and he smashed a venomous shot in at the near post.
Undeterred by the setback, DKOS carried on playing their game. They were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty after the referee gave a free kick for a foul that clearly occurred inside the penalty area. DKOS' efforts were rewarded before half time. Ellis' corner wasn't dealt with by the away side and the ball fell to Hawkins, whose half volley evaded the keeper and found the bottom corner. DKOS could've had another just before the interval, but the referee decided to blow for half time after Gregory was played through on goal. We're not saying there's a conspiracy, but we're not not saying that either.
The second half continued in a similar vain, with Duke of York withstanding a slew of DKOS pressure. The referee waved away two more DKOS penalty shouts, after it appeared that Dines may have been tripped by an onrushing goalkeeper, and Hawkins was upended by a clear push in the back.
There was a brief period of Duke of York resurgence, but they couldn't break through a stubborn DKOS back line. They ran into the great wall of Charlie Madden as the DKOS right back made a last ditch tackle, before getting up to make a block and a clearance in the same attack. Duke of York finally mustered second shot on target of the game, but they couldn't beat a flailing Omoigui leg which tipped the ball round the post from close range.
DKOS had chances to win the game, but the luck wasn't with them. Ellis, Gregory and Dines all went close, and The Green's had a host of shots blocked by some desperate Duke of York defending. There was yet another penalty waved away by the referee, as a Duke of York defender appeared to block a goalbound header with his hand. The winning goal, like a flaccid member after a night of heavy drinking, just wouldn't come.
DKOS were unlucky not to win the game, but they will be happy to preserve their unbeaten home record. On another day they'd have been home and dry, but it just wasn't meant to be.
