The wait is over. After weeks of frustration, DKOS recorded
their first win of the season in emphatic style by putting Burntwood FC to the
sword away from home.
DKOS looked in control from the first whistle, winning
physical battles all over the pitch whilst playing some nice football whilst in
possession. The pressure proved to much for the home side as the deadlock was
broken early in the first half. DKOS won a free kick from 25 yards out, and
resident set piece specialist rifled the ball over the wall and into the top
corner – an early goal of the season contender. Shortly after, a Brennan corner
was whipped to the near post onto the head of Jamie Gregory, and the DKOS skipper’s
bullet header made it 0-2.
With such momentum behind them, DKOS were going to take some
stopping. They were in complete control and were carving open the Burntwood
defence seemingly at will. To the surprise of no-one, a third goal soon
followed. After some neat interplay on the edge of the box, the ball was rolled
to Joe Burke. Our number 10 had the time to pick his spot, and the composure to
stroke the ball into the bottom corner for his first goal of the season –
surely the first of many.
They say that those who fail to learn from history are
doomed to repeat it. So when Burntwood gave away another free kick on the edge
of the box, they shouldn’t have been shocked at what happened next. Bishop
promptly dispatched his second free kick of the game (and third of the season)
by smashing the ball in at the keeper’s side.
Burntwood offered little going forward, save for two free
kicks at the end of the half. Unfortunately for them they don’t have a Matt
Bishop in their team, so both efforts were dealt with by Omoigui.
The second half carried on in similar fashion as DKOS
entered cruise control. There was time for the away side to add more gloss to
the score line. Bishop played through Gregory who slotted the ball home for his
second of the game. Willem Raworth made a second half debut for the club, and
despite thinking he was ‘going to have a heart attack’ after 15 minutes of
running, he put in an assured performance in the middle of the park.
All in all this was a real 5 star performance from DKOS as they showed exactly what they are capable of. Strong at the back, creative in midfield and deadly in attack – a dangerous triumvirate. A commanding performance rightly produced three points, and you can tell that the boys are just getting started. Hopefully they can ride this wave of momentum into next week’s game – and we’ll be with them along the journey.
