In the final pre-season match before Sunday’s curtain
raiser, DKOS gave a taste of things to come in a dominant 4-1 win.
DKOS, sporting all black for the final time before debuting
their new kits on Sunday, made their intentions clear right from the off. They
wouldn’t give their opponents a second to breathe on the ball, and they showed
their class when they were in possession. The boys soon made their early
pressure count. Tommy McGrail played a perfectly weighted through ball from
right back, which skipper Jamie Gregory needed no second invitation to latch on
to. The striker poked the ball past the onrushing keeper whilst holding off the
covering defender.
When the Sutton Park defenders went to sleep last night,
they will undoubtedly have had nightmares about what the front three of Dines,
Gregory and Burke did to them this game. The trio terrorised the backline all
game with their pace, penetration and trickery – all factors which led to DKOS’
second goal. After running onto another through ball, Gregory’s attempt at goal
fell to Burke, who made no mistake from close range.
In the first half, Sutton Park offered little going forward
due to the stoic defending Brennan, Hughes, McGrail and debutant Alex Diego. Their
only effort on goal was from a free kick which was comfortably dealt with by
Bateman.
The first half scoring wasn’t done. Bish, who we’re quickly
realising went to the same school of heading as Harry Maguire, used his feet
this time to play in Dines, who smashed the ball past the keeper with authority.
After the half time break, DKOS picked up where they left
off almost immediately. Dines played a nice one-two with Gregory and found himself
through on goal. You know exactly what happened next – the ball found the
bottom corner.
Sutton Park were able to pull a goal back from the penalty
spot, but it only proved to be a consolation as DKOS ran out comfortable winners.
The pleasing thing to take away from the match (aside from the fact that The Vesey is the superior pub on Boldmere High Street) is that the
chemistry within the team is getting stronger by the day. Everybody is getting
used to their roles and each other, and that was evident in this performance.
Beating an established team in only our second eleven-a-side game does nothing
but inspire confidence. The momentum and excitement are building.
BRING ON SUNDAY!
